Our Story

Our mother, Maggie Baker (1936-2013), loved dancing, laughing, music, walking, and baking. She loved life. She loved her family. Maggie Baker had Alzheimer’s. Watching her deteriorate was horrible, but the worst part was when she no longer knew us.
Families for Alzheimer’s Awareness was founded because we wanted a way to fight back against this disease. We started small—in 2005, four of us formed a team, Baker’s Bunch, and walked in our first Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. That first year we raised $80. Since then, our team has grown and our fundraising has increased almost one hundredfold.
Mom passed away in January 2013. We continue our efforts in her memory and to honor her life. Last year (2013) we raised nearly $15,000. We are committed to this vital cause.
Our team works very closely with the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter. In 2011, our team captain, Debbie Scheiding, was invited by the Miami Valley Chapter to attend the Alzheimer’s Association National conference. There she learned the importance of Alzheimer’s Awareness and was forever changed. We decided to step up our fundraising. We changed our team name and started a non-profit organization named “Families for Alzheimer’s Awareness."
Our goal is to continue to help educate people about Alzheimer’s Awareness and raise money to help find a cure. We envision a world without Alzheimer's. Join with us. #ENDALZ
